Courtney Emerson as The Angel in Angels in America Part II: Perestroika
Courtney Emerson
Courtney Emerson has envisioned a life surrounded by the arts since the age of 6. When asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, Courtney confidently told her family that she would be an artist. Her choice was met with concern however, as her family felt that might not be the most stable career choice for a 6 year old to stick with. “Okay,” she told them, “I can be an actress, too!”, landing her first character role - The Wicked Witch of the West - in her elementary school’s production of The Wizard of Oz. Problem solved.
As she got older, her passion for theatre grew. While playing a variety of roles (Ann Deever, All My Sons; Fortinbras, Hamlet; Angel, Angels in America Part 2: Perestroika) Courtney was able to continuously hone her craft on stage. Wanting to be as useful as possible in the community theatre scene, she taught herself the basics of things like costuming, set design and dressing, prop design, and stage makeup.
Her love of the arts manifested in many ways - inspiring her to take on the written word as a playwright and member of The Dramatist Guild; Directing for short play festivals and touring children’s theater; and taking part in small independent films to further her understanding of performing.
In her very little free time, Courtney enjoys baking, singing in the shower (her upstairs neighbor thinks she’s getting better!) and cuddling with her two adopted Guinea Pigs; Bucky and Bowie.
